- Agrochemical R&D – hard work and money is not enough (Dr Rob Bryant, Agranova). The talk will concentrate on the scientific and technological challenges rather than an analysis of the money spent by various companies over the past 10-20 years. It will compare the way agrochemical R&D was successfully carried out in the twentieth century and highlight what this experience can teach those involved in research in the twenty-first century.
- The Effect of Emerging Legislation on Formulation Trends and Technology (Mr. Andrew Fowles,Dow AgroSciences). It will cover key pieces of legislation emerging primarily in Europe and the US and the effect these have on formulation trends and the development of new formulation technologies.
- Natural products as leads for new and innovated crop protection products (John Clough, Chemistry Group Leader, Syngenta).This presentation will describe the way in which Syngenta uses natural products (NPs) for the discovery of new herbicides, fungicides and insecticides.
- “Plant Health Care (PHC)” (Phil Lane, Head of Fungicide Research & Development, BASF). Strategies that can be applied to find and develop a new fungicide will be presented and discussed with reference to specific cases. Examples of leads arising from different sources will be presented and also the contribution of different technologies to the process discussed. A recent optimization will be presented to illustrate how this was done in practice. In addition innovation with commercial products will also be addressed showing examples where new market segments were accessed with existing commercial products.
- Observation of the products coming off-patent in the global market (Nigel,Enigma Market Research).There are various competitive products on a global basis with considerate annual sales that will come off-patent in the next several years. However, some of them may still see a prosperous market while some may see market decline ahead. This report is expected to help companies to make good decisions on this.
